Landscaping in Lower Failand
This project aimed to make the most of a beautiful panoramic view over the Severn estuary. Set in the rolling hills of Lower Failand there were significant changes in levels to work with, requiring a number of different garden terraces and associated retaining walls and steps. The design was very modern with clean lines and the use of contemporary materials such as composite decking and 'sawn' white sandstone. |
Paving, walling and steps. A combination of 'sawn' white sandstone, matching 'bullnose' steps and white painted rendered walls were to be employed together to create a light and spacious feeling garden with a modern, contemporary feel. A large amount of walling was necessary to retain the different levels within the garden and create distinct areas. The bullnose steps linked the different areas together, ensured the garden flowed well and that continuity was maintained. |
Composite decking and underdeck storage. A light grey composite decking option was chosen to complement the new walling and paving. A raised deck, installed directly outside the rear bifold doors, provided extra entertaining space and allowed for a natural transition between inside and out. The height difference between the raised deck and lower garden level meant that safety needed to be taken into consideration. Glass balustrades provided a barrier whilst maintaining light and not obstructing the view. |
Underdeck storage is often highly sought after as storage space is often in short supply. It is not always possible however as a suitably robust supporting frame for a raised deck will limit the vertical space available for storage. Due to the significant changes in height here however, storage was a viable option. A discreet door was constructed using matching composite deck boards to provide access to this space. |
